My experiences with literacy have been ones that vary a lot. For one thing I was never the one in elementary school saying that I loved to read. I would have much rather gone home after school and sat down and just watched television. I did not see the importance of going reading something that I found boring. It actually was not until I was in the fourth grade that I remember actually reading a book and being so into the book. We read "Mystery on Mackinaw Island” from the first page of this book I was into it. This is when I discovered that I enjoyed mystery books and it was actually my mom who recognized my love for reading history. She introduced me to Sherlock Holmes which to this day are still my favorite stories to read. There was just something about trying to figure out the mystery and solve it before the end of the book that just got me.
My family also contributed to my fondness of reading. Whenever we would go on road trips for vacations my mom would always play books on tape and they would make the trips a little more fun. Despite the fact that we were not reading still listening to a book seemed to be just as easy and was not boring.
Besides just reading in literacy there is also the issue of writing. I do not mind writing papers and coming up with ideas. In school I loved writing stories it was a lot of fun. However there is the issue of grammar and mechanics that I always had the issue with. I had the hardest time learning how to use commas and other punctuations in writing even when it came to editing I was not the most confident when doing it. I would have to say that that is my low point in literacy is in mechanics. This actually made me realize the importance of being taught mechanics at a young age and to make sure that they stick with the students. I know I would have a much easier time with papers if I was a little better at editing and more confident.
